Finally we got more news and something to talk about, Artillery Changes!
According to the article it says that the tier 8 BMP-3m is getting changed to the 125mm light tank. I think we’re keeping the BMP-3m, but the Dragun (the variant with a 57mm autocannon in the turret) is being changed. Not trying to say you’re wrong, just finding the info in the video and article is a little bit conflicting.
imho, artillery in AW is very well implemented. The incoming artillery alert pretty much allows players to avoid direct hit easily, and to further compensate for their indirect firing ability they are very easy to kill, almost have 0 maneuverability and armor, lowest dpm in tier. I played some arty games and I personally don’t have problem with it at all.
The way they’re changing arty is kinda radical imo, its almost sounds like theyre adding KV2s…
tbh I’d rather they implement arty as a full support vehicle with no damaging ability… but it can be very challenging.
the drought of aw content from u is nearly over. :)
random question: how do u get the yellow bot color instead of the original red color?
I was ok with arty the way it was, although I haven’t tried the new arty, I think I’ll be OK with them. as for the rest of balance 2.0, I think it is moving in the right direction.
arty was bad in PvE only. I dumped all but premium Arty’s for now. thanks much for everything you do!!
oh oh oh and arty in real life is so much more then in our game. in real life three 155mm on a m1a1 would do more than scratch the paint lol
It would be interesting to see the Challenger 2 CLEP with a possible 120mm Smoothbore Gun thrown into the UK MBT line.
The arty changes will be very interesting. I look forward to testing them. Arty really was killer in PvE, to the point of damaging the fun of the game. And in PvP, it was WoT arty all over again, nothing but over-the-map indirect fire with no change for the target to retaliate. That kind of stuff needs to be avoided.
Admittedly, the arty being direct fire won’t on any way be *accurate* in implementation. If a Paladin is in the position of having to shotgun an enemy tank, than things have gone horribly, horribly wrong. Somewhat mitigated by there not being a tank on this earth that can survive getting clubbed in the face with a 155mm HERA shell. Upon contact with the tank, the chassis should end up in a different time zone, while the turret hits low orbit.
I titter with glee for the Merkava changes. It’s my favorite premium, and now it;s going to be better.
haven’t played for time but I’ll definitely come back when latest patch drops
I’m not sure about the arty changes, I mean the thing everybody in WoT hated was that they did such a high alpha damage and were doing so while being impervious to retaliation. They got rid of the high alpha but kept the indirect fire and everybody was contempt with it. Now they want to change it to high alpha (which everyone disliked) and to direct fire (which was the thing arty players didn’t like) and make them highly mobile with terrible armor and stealth? I’m getting T82 TD flashbacks and let’s not forget that people hate the ISU line for their ridiculous cannons in WoT as well. I just hope it’ll work out.
I generally like the announced changes, nothing really more to say from me one thing, you forgot to mention that the post says the Cent 155 will be the SPG T:10
Soooo… they’re removing 140mm guns from the game as those don’t exist in the real world (or exist only in blueprints), but at the same time they’re making arty fire directly which it doesn’t do in the real world. Leave arty as it is or remove it from the game imo.
I WOULD LIKE THE LEOPARD 1A5 MOVED TO TIER 4 THE OF-40 TO TIER 3 THE BASE LEOPARD TO TIER 2
AND THE A NEW TIER 5 TANK TH LEOPARD 1A1A1 ITS A LEOPARD 1 WITH THE 120 MM GUN FROM THE LEOPARD 2
AND I WOULD LIKE THE IS SERIES OF TANK IN THE GAME LIKE THE IS-4M OR THE T-10(IS-8) THE CENTURIONS AND THE SUPER SHERMAN LINE ALSO SOME YUGOSLAV TANKS BECAUSE YUGOSLAVIA IS KINDA THE RUSSIAN SMALL SISTER STATE WE ARE FROM THE SAME TRIBE ANY WAY AND POSSIBLE WW2 TANKS WITCH ARE GOOD AND POWER FULL LIKE THE PANTHER 2, TIGER 2, MAUS , E 100 FOR TIER 1 OR EVEN A TIER 0
O AND ONE OR TWO TANKS FROM THE PERSHING LINE ALSO THE IS-3 IS-6 IS-5
SOME IDEAS I HAD
Thank you for the update, Fi and I hope these changes do effect the game for the better. :D
I think on the whole the changes sound quite good and I’m looking forward to them. It will be nice not to be blasted in 2 shots by an Armata when driving a tier8 MBT in Glops, but the artillery changes seem a bit half-arsed. I quite liked it how it was as it wasn’t too OP and had a great support role on the battlefield with it’s illumination and smoke rounds. With the proposed changes, I think Obsidian might as well have taken it out all together because with it’s poor mobility, armour and camouflage values artillery drivers will spend half the match driving to a position where they can actually engage the enemy, if they’re lucky they might get one shot off before they get spotted and then immediately get killed. Personally I don’t drive the stuff, but I can see this being very frustrating for arty drivers who will then probably give up on driving it anyway. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to take their PzH 2000 anywhere near the front lines.
The bit with the tank paradropping in is REALLY quite… o.O
– Says it should be in the next two or three weeks – Has previously state that she knows the exact release date >_> Hirmh…
Did you mean BMD-4 and BMP-3? ‘Cause you said BMP-4 and BMP-3… 😛
As for the getting shot, I’m going to guess that the shell hit the tank husk in front of you and ricocheted into the gun. Watching it in slowmo, there’s a shower of sparks off the hull the same time the gun module takes damage.
If the damage will be based on the caliber, this will not be a good thing for TDs. I think they should give TDs better accuracy and better aim time.
So in other words the Artillery becomes a sniper. And with longer reloads (that will suck) and the thin armor doesn’t seem to be a good thing for arty players. I still think it’s a good thing. Wish it wasn’t taking so long but that’s something that can’t be helped I guess. I want to see more makes of tanks (different countries) and more options for type of ammo we can use. How about the fire and forget missiles?
I am fine with the changes. I was never an arty hater. I do not particularly like playing arty but I do have a few in my garage. I just considered it a challenge that needed to be overcome when I faced it. It was not impossible to deal with. I think the incoming changes will be good for the game. I am more concerned about the beta bugs getting worked out and OE/MY putting an end to the disheartening event failures.
what a buff to the mekava that thing is already op as it is
Can’t wait for an actual challenge in PvE ;-)
in 2.0 all vehicle research progress will go to 0? ill take all the XP and credits?? for example im now at the ariete after 2.0 all progress will be deleted? so i can have a chancw with the xp to unlock the t-90?
I am not a arty player. but to me the changes to arty sound really bad. But there is not way to know till we see what happens. As to the 140mm guns being removed. Well I never thought they need tier 10 in the first place. But if there going to have it. I like to see more balance to them. And I hope this is will help get that balance.
Shit news for us large bore Armata owners and I’m mightily pissed by that – the stock gun is crap in comparison to that and other 120-130mm guns. “IF” they up the ammo to real word performance it “may” compensate somewhat.
I liked arty the way it was during EA. A low damage support vehicle that was highly vulnerable to attacking enemy AFVs. The mindless implementation of it in PVE just killed it.

So, looking to get into AW, with the proposed changes what do you see as being the functional difference between a direct fire artillery piece as a Sniper, and a Tank Destroyer? Is there a reason to get one over the other?
Love these videos that pass out information. Good to hear that AW is moving forward and Balance 2.0 is getting ready to drop. As an old tanker – jeebus, 47 years at it?, a couple of things pop into my mind. Generally, I like the way things are distributed among the tiers and the fact that lower tier vehicles are being made more viable in matches with higher tier opponents. I’ve got no problem with logistics and consumables costs as they are implemented, and think that works pretty well.
About arty rebalance. Arty in AW is truly weird now because of the small size of the maps compared to real life. Trying to get indirect fire on something less than 1000 meters away is a tad difficult. Under 1000 meters, yeah, I’ll go along with making them direct-fire systems, since you would be firing over iron sights anyway according to the few people I know who served in artillery units. In that case, there would be a very high pucker factor with primary interest in pumping out a round or two and running the hell away. All that aside, one thing that the in-game arty should absolutely excel at is killing vehicle commanders, who usually fought in shoulder-defilade or suffered a huge visibility penalty, especially in lower tiers, concussing other crew members, and stripping away mobility (track damage/destruction). Other stuff, not so much – Obsidian should leave a smaller likelihood for such things as weapon system damage (primary because of damage to fire control components and alignment) and increase the amount of damage received if there is a direct hit from artillery, since it almost always would hit the thinner top armor of the turret or hull over the engine. Also, rounds like Copperhead (for the US 155mm line) should be available and turned into ATGM, since that is effectively what they were – laser guided, steerable artillery shells that could be flown into a target. If I recall correctly, they could be flown into a 3-foot diameter circle by a skilled observer who kept the target painted with the laser designator until impact; in game terms, let’s call that a level-5 commander capability. Also would like to see some other arty rounds, like artillery-deliverable minefields (fire into a choke point like a bridge or pass and anything that drives through during the match suffers track damage/destruction) or top-down munitions that cost a lot more but are more lethal since they explode about 20 feet above the target and send shaped-charge submunitions. Minor gripe? Hey, we’ve all seen enemy vehicle bunch up (especially in PVE, they’ll crash into each other), thrown an HE or HERA round at these things that are fender-to-fender, make a direct hit, and – only one vehicle takes damage? WTF? Blast radius, anyone? That should be fixed to throw some damage onto the other vehicles within the blast radius even if one takes the bulk of it.
Other thoughts. OK, the game time frame is set in the mid-term future- what, about 20 years out? – so some prototype vehicles at tier 10 could reasonably be expected. But since the basic premise is a pretty fragmented world with nation-states failing and security being provided by mercenaries, the fact is that most of the mercs are going to be equipped with lower tier stuff that already exists. Ammo and bolt-on modules are going to be the great equalizers among tiers. It’s been shown time and again from the 70’s through today that a better main gun round can make an old tank into a lethal (although fragile) opponent even against today’s stuff.
In my mind, this means that we should be seeing a LOT more lower tier-stuff, say anything that was still being actively used in the 70’s (even if produced in the early 50’s, like the M41, M47, M48, M103 and PT76, T55, Centurian, and Conquerer) bulking out the lines up through tier 5. A lot of those would still be floating around (mostly in third world countries now, and since they would probably be the first countries to collapse, their equipment would be most likely to wind up in the hands of merc companies) After mid-tier stuff, which would be vehicles designed and manufactured in the 70’s and 80’s, and would run up and into stuff like M1, M1A1, Challenger, Merkava, Leopard 2 series, T80, and such, mostly NATO/Warsaw Pact secondary states, things get quite a bit less frequently seen, since the production bases started contracting in the late 90’s when the Cold War ended.
In the 90’s, though we started seeing smaller powers producing more and more designs to supply their own needs (I’m throwing China in here only because prior to about the 90’s, they were focussed on consolidation rather than power projection like they are now) and we start seeing vehicles coming out of Israel, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and a couple of others in numbers that would make it likely that mercs could get their hands on them. These smaller countries would be where most of the newer mid-tier stuff should come from, with a couple of breakout Tier-9 vehicles topping those lines.
One quick way, although it may be unpopular with the player base, to reflect availability of different vehicles within each tier, would be to set different base costs for those vehicles; I would expect someone who wanted an OF40 or AMX30 to have to pay more than for an M60, high-end Centurion, Chieftain, Leopard1, or T62, since fewer OF40 and AMX30 were produced.
Modules? Go nuts.. it’s a lot cheaper to reverse engineer and manufacture ammo, fire control, and engine/suspension components than to set up a industrial base to produce hulls and turrets, so lots of smaller countries and larger defense companies got into the act and churned those out. If you want to bolt a thermal sight and laser rangefinder into your M41 and load out depleted-uranium APFSDS, go for it. It will be a nasty surprise for the unwary AFV/arty/TD driver out to about tier 7, but will evaporate when a mid-tier LT or MBT wanders into range.
Hello, your Spanish is very pretty … my English is not so much .. My opinion regarding the changes is that it is very well everything that can be improved in terms of technical issues ….. but we will still have to play with players in AFK, players who do not move and useless for the games ??? ? I think that’s the big problem with this game. It has become a game of luck that depends on who you play with. Winning does not depend on your effort or skill but on luck depending on which team you are on. There is no reward for good or punishment for the player who stays in AFK or simply does not contribute anything to the game and this should not be allowed.
When they gonna add all that tanks they design?Japanese, etc..?
You mean we don’t get to test it on NA test server first? No testing for upper tiers?
should i buy the warrior & bmp 3 & bmp 3m?
Hello again from Spain. Do you think it may be interesting to play on the test server to be able to tell us your opinion about your feelings for the new changes? THANKS
What do you think about the Altay MBT?
Hello. I’d like to see in Custom Match the ability to have a match versing Bots
BIG Q for you Fiaura. There has been NO talk or mention of the bonus crates & insignia bonus for the upcoming the 0.19/2.0 build. Will they still be there? We who have tons of them will be loose them? If not, How in the hell would Obsidian compensate for all of my 100’s bonus crates & etc?
All hail fiaura , Queen of AW
