I review the AMX 13 90, a tier 8 French light tank in World of Tanks (WoT), with a replay of a tier 9 Fiery Salient (Prokhorovka) battle.
Stat line: Ace Tanker, 3.2k damage, 2.9k assisted damage, 8 spots, 2 kills
I discuss how to complete LT-15, the light tank mission that requires 4k+ damage contribution, which is the sum of direct damage and assisted damage.
IMO the most consistent way to reach 4k+ is spotting from hill, because unlike passive scouting on the 1/2 lines, you can fire on tanks and then retreat behind hard cover.
Strengths and Weaknesses
+ excellent camouflage
+ excellent gold round (ACPR with 248 pen)
+ good view range (400m)
+ good burst damage (1440) in a full clip
– poor accuracy (0.38)
– poor gun handling on-the-move
– load clip reload (38 seconds with Vents)
– poor gun depression and rear mounted turret limit hill-fighting capability
– small crew (3) hampers skill acquisition
Comments / Errata:
1. it's important to stay out of the line of fire when enemy tanks are shooting at your friendlies. E.g. at 3:49, the enemy T-54's shell passes within a few meters of my hull, so I move up the hill a bit and point my hull towards the T-54 to make my profile smaller. By the same token, I stay away from the friendly AMX 50 100, who repeatedly exposes himself to spotting and enemy fire
I talk through how I'm reading the battle as it unfolds and discuss key decisions and mistakes. My hope is that these videos meaningfully help other players improve their gameplay.

+Taugrim Also the non-gold HESH has such a good pen that it almost renders
the gold ammo useless!
It’s going to be interesting next patch when the tier 8 IS-3 will have
better pen than the tier 9 Centurion. Tanks like the Patton with their gold
ammo will seem like a much better choice for many players.
+mh waso > less pen with gold ammo
I don’t use gold ammo, so the gold round on the 7/1 is immaterial to me.
Most players would agree with you that HESH sucks – it’s only situationally
useful, like against soft targets.
+timmie timmins > Which heavy tank line would you recommend? Especially for
a player who is mainly focused on tiers 7-8
Either the Soviet IS-7 line or the E-100 line. Both have solid tanks at
tiers 7-8. At those tiers IS-7 line is probably more popular.
+Taugrim yeah, I am aware you don’t fire gold in your videos…. I am just
also aware that it would probably solve a lot of the problems I have had
with the AMX line, both the AMX 40 and the AMX 13 75 specifically.
Thanks for the advice. Which heavy tank line would you recommend?
Especially for a player who is mainly focused on tiers 7-8, rather than
necessarily planning on going straight through to tiers 9-10.
+Jonathan Boughton > Thank you for the effort of putting together these
videos which I find very informative.
You’re welcome!
> I would like to see this idea realised because despite all your good
ideas, when it comes to an actual battle things never seem to fall into
place so there must be some fundamental problems with implementing you
advice
It’s ironic you wrote that.
Prior to 2008 I used to do written guides only, but people would say “what
you said doesn’t work” so then I started doing videos showing illustrative
footage of me doing the things I wrote about. People used to not believe
me. LOL 🙂
I think taking the themes and ideas from this collection of videos
(currently 23), and then refining your gameplay based on insights that are
helpful to you is the thing.
I’ve had multiple people tell me they’ve doubled their Recent WN8 to 2k+
through learning from my videos, but it’s impossible for me to know why
things are or are not falling into place for you.
> We sometimes learn more from a mistake than doing to correctly?
I think it’s more valuable to show people what to do, then to focus on what
not to do.
Both are illustrative, however examples of the former are much harder to
find than the latter.
I had a pretty big carry tonight in my 13 90 in a tier 10 battle, but I
make some very bonehead mistakes, so that will probably be the subject of a
future video.
+Taugrim Hi Taugrim. Thank you for the effort of putting together these
videos which I find very informative. I would like to see this idea
realised because despite all your good ideas, when it comes to an actual
battle things never seem to fall into place so there must be some
fundamental problems with implementing you advice. It doesn’t necessarily
have to be someone else’s replay. Maybe a video of where you made a bad
judgement call and why? You are happy to point out your mistakes during
your replays so maybe it just needs a montage of some of those. We
sometimes learn more from a mistake than doing to correctly?
Keep up the great work.
+Taugrim so weird to have a youtuber reply to my comment lol
+robosapieo 232 > I would love it if you took replays from viewers and
critiqued them on what they did wrong and what they did right
I’ve been thinking about doing this.
If anyone reading this comment is also interested, please let me know. If
there is sufficient interest, I can ask for wotreplays links and see if
there’s enough submitted to make such a series worthwhile.
+Xhuri > I thought the LT-15 mission required 4k spotting damage
That’s how it originally was.
The missions were reworked and LT-15 was changed from spotting damage only
to damage contribution.
+Taugrim
i thought it was hilarious back when they introduced the m41 that they
buffed the t71 in basically the next patch even though it was the best tier
7 light before the m41 came in. but they didnt buff the amx 13 75 which was
easily the worst of them all and it took them a few patches to buff the on
the move ability and rof of the wz 131. as far as im aware they never did
buff the 13 75.
i actually liked the 13 75 a lot but the ammo count meant you needed to
make every shot connect or you could run out of ammo and it could cost you
the game. i finished more games in it with 0 shells remaining than in any
other tank.
the 13 90 has the same shell count as the 13 75 but it does near double the
damage per shot so its not as much off an issue in it.
after driving the t71 im amazed how bad the 13 75 is in comparison there is
only one area where the 13 75 is better and thats in clip reload time. the
t71 has more pen and feels a lot faster and i think has more view range
too. if the m41 is considered to be a lot better than the t71 then that
will be insanity.
+DEANOGTO > the americans are insanely powerful particularly the t71 and m41
Yup, power creep FTL.
The American light tanks are insanely good.
+Smackedown > Your “Road to” series is a master-class series in my humble
opinion
Thanks, that is high praise!
