Welcome to the remastered Tank Ammo Guide. There are a whole bunch of different shells, and it’s easy to get confused about them. That’s why I spent a lot of time explaining how they work in detail and provided 3D animations to help you understand how they work. If anything’s unclear or you need more information, don’t hesitate to leave a comment. Once again, massive thanks to the War Thunder Wiki for providing a lot of info. The video wouldn’t have been possible without all the contributors.

Updated information will go here as they come, in the meantime, thank you all for 50k <3
Here are some of the shells I forgor to mention, as well as some corrections (read before you comment):
── Extra shells ──
-The regular Top-Attack ATGM like the Tow-2B: these missiles fly above the target, and when they're right on top of it, they detonate in a downward angle. It's like the ATGM-OTA, but these don't collide with the armor.
-The Starstreak: it's technically classified as a SAM in-game, but it's also a kinetic penetrator. Think of it like an airborne APHE shell.
-BUR: a Soviet high-explosive rocket found on the Object 775. It's pretty much a smaller version of the Rocket.
-HE-FS: High-Explosive Fin-Stabilized, a regular HE round fired from smoothbore cannons. Because it doesn't have spin-stabilization, it uses fin-stabilization.
── Corrections ──
-In real life, the cap on APC doesn't actually normalize the shell, it just reduces the chance of shattering. In-game though, the shell's path is modeled in a way that it normalizes.
Thanks lad. Watched the first video a month ago, and this is a welcome upgrade now that I’m on another “War thunder” interest phase
Great video but you’ve forgotten about the short fin stabilised sabot found primarily on Soviet tanks
You forgot the PELE-T round on the gripen AHHHHH
Gripen is a tank!!
My left ear liked it
Plane rounds vid?
Already exists, check it out on my channel
@@skDoger I found it right after the comment lol
mtfk he just went through the whole Alphabet 😭💀💀
Uh did you say the kinetic atgm is not in game?
Did you forget the losat
I said it’s not classified in-game, because it’s considered a regular ATGM
@@skDoger ok thank you for helping me understand
@@ErrorCodeNull No problem
Shrapnel shell is literally a cluster bomb so brutal.☠️
nice visuals man
Glad you like em
I’m genuinely curious. If APC is not good for long range why not make the “soft” part more pointy to improve aerodynamics instead of using ballistic cap
The whole point of the cap is to disperse the force into a wider area; if the nose was pointy then the force would be concentrated on the tip of the shell, which kinda goes against its purpose
Armor guide when?
Planned for the future
yay@@skDoger
Me with almost 5000 hours: 😳🤯
BESH round is Best round
After years he makes a new one
WT < WOT
HE SAID BESH
but gaijin doesn’t model HESH properly so instead of the back of the armour blowing out gaijin modelled it like a HE round so it detonates on impact and that why the FV4005 does no damage to heavy and medium tanks unless you shoot the tank on a very high angle and then you might overpressure it
Gotta say the graphics definitely improved from squares
Thank you Mr. Trump
How many of these attributes could you reasonably put onto on shell. You know, for one of those dumb names.
In theory you could create an APHECBCFS-DS or armor-piercing high-explosive capped ballistic capped fin-stabilized discarding-sabot shell
@@skDoger Epic, one question though: could you fit a timed or variable timed fuse on it?
@@hueytran9691 Now you’re using 100% of your brain, that is definitely possible
@@skDoger now, would it be possible to add those little balls from the shrapnel shell?
@@hueytran9691 Possibly
interesting
Apcr will always be shit
So glad you didn’t say the HEAT round uses a jet of superheated metal (as is a common misconception, due to the abbreviation)
That would’ve led to a HEATed discussion hehe
gaijiin hates everyone so they are going to make a new shell out of spite
The fact they had to do a disclaimer on them saying “Shell” and “Round”. 💀
In-game, APBC outperforms APCBC (assuming equal mass and velocity) for angles around 25-50 degrees, which are some of the most common target angles you will encounter. The exact angle range where this happens increases with the overmatch ratio, Gaijin made public the exact formula they use a few years ago so I wrote a little python code to test it out. It’s questionnable whether this is realistic or not, but the result is that large-caliber APBC shells (such as soviet 122mm ww2 shells) have unreasonably good performance versus thin sloped armor. As a result, they are actually a better choice than APCBC for most scenarios
What a Perfect Video
Minecraft fence gate has the most Gaijin Bias😂😂😂
So basically we use wery cool arrows now
Which means modern tank is just cool ballista
True
The legend has come to reclaim his throne.
So bc im not smart, someone say me pls what LOSAT SHOOTS? APFSDS? imma just guess
Pretty much just a rocket-propelled APFSDS without the sabot
The yearly april ammo guide
think you forgot the forward fire topdown missiles, like the TOW-2B ect.
Check the pinned comment
2:48 aphe is also technically modeled incorrectly in game. It’s for gameplay reasons but cause of inertia most of the fragments from it would just continue going forward not giving it as much benifits over solid shot as it has in game. It should just act like solid show with a bit more omfh kinda thing
ATGM-AP is easily my most favorite round nothing shoots like it
I thought the self sharpening effect of DU is a misconception? I remember seeing someone explaining that there’s no self sharpening effect but that the DU just deforms slower than Tungsten.
Its the same video but updated! I love it in every single way!
Nice work!!
anyone else hear besh at 9:56
Very nice to see this great video updated. As a small addition, smoke shells can kill open topped vehicles in-game with the low amount of HE filler contained in them, and I suppose the smoke wouldn’t be very healthy for the crew in real life either (on top of the disorienting explosion, even if it didn’t do much physical harm).
I preffer the og hand made animations 🙁
I’m not even a new player anymore, but I’d like this video!
New one, nice
1 minute silence for anti concrete shell for not being in the game anymore
Broken on some tanks still
You taught me better than my teacher

Bro I got Into war Thunder a couple months ago and watched your old video. It was really informative and helpful, but I’m glad you remastered it because my brother just got into and I can show him this.
Thanks, bro much appreciated
I spam smoke at my enemy when they hit my main barrel
Damn thanks
Any other long time players watching just because why not?
